Influence on your happiness

Before we get into your influence on your own happiness, it seems necessary to me to talk about the definition of happiness. What is happiness? The social psychologist Ap Dijksterhuis has brought together various characteristics of happiness as described throughout the ages. According to Dijksterhuis, happiness is a process, something you can and should work on. Happiness is not a snapshot and is accompanied by an attitude of satisfaction and peace of mind. How does this attitude come about?

Sonja Lyubomirsky, an American professor of psychology, states in her book The How of Happiness that 50% of happiness is influenced by your genes (some come into this world hopping and others are more melancholy), 10% by possessions and 40% by your own mindset. Personally, I am convinced that the influence of genes is much lower than 50%. The stem cell biologist Bruce Lipton has studied epi-genetics (= above the genes) and discovered from his own research that your own beliefs strongly influence the functioning of cells. We still underestimate the superpower of our thoughts. But that’s a topic for another blog😊.

Let’s now take a moment to look at the other two factors. Possession, which you think will bring you happiness and for which you are working hard for, determines only an insignificant 10% of your sense of happiness. The other 40% influence by mindset is quite a range in which you can maneuver, don’t you think?

What is mindset? Mindset is the framework through which you view yourself and the world around you. Mindset is a set of beliefs you have about your own image (your identity, qualities and talents, etc.), your worldview and its changeability. Prof. Carol Dweck discovered that a fixed mindset hinders development/change, while a growth mindset ensures acceptance/confidence in changes and motivation/passion for development. Your mindset determines your attitude to life and therefore your feeling of happiness.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change – Wayne Dyer

For many top athletes, having a mental coach is essential. It has been shown that their success is only a small part determined by their physical abilities and a large part by their way of thinking and belief in themselves. Do you know that behind most successful and happy entrepreneurs there is also a coach? Many people are not aware of the immense impact of mindset and that it can be simple to shift mindset. To change your mindset, however, you have to be willing to look at yourself and be open to new perspectives. This often requires an external influence. After all, you can’t change your way of thinking, with your own/current way of thinking😉.

There are many solutions in the field of mindset change, but often they don’t go deep enough so the effect remains superficial; or it becomes unnecessarily complicated so people quickly drop out. Are you looking for a simple and effective way to experience lasting happiness? Feel free to contact me! It’s unimaginable how quickly a mindset change is going to reflect positively in your daily life.
